How to Care for Your Canvas Print — Keep It Looking New for Decades
Your personalised canvas print is made to last — but a few simple habits will keep colours rich, the surface clean and the frame sturdy for 50 years or more. Here's exactly how to care for your canvas, whether it's a pet portrait, a wedding canvas or a family photo canvas.
How to Clean a Canvas Print
Dusting (every 1–2 weeks)
Use a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a feather duster. Gently wipe the surface in one direction. Never press hard — canvas has a textured surface and excessive pressure can flatten the weave or crack the ink layer over time.
Spot cleaning (as needed)
For a fingerprint or small mark, dab — never rub — with a slightly damp microfibre cloth using plain water. Keep the cloth barely damp: too much moisture can seep into the canvas fibres. Dry the area immediately with a soft cloth.
What to avoid
- No chemical cleaners — window sprays, bleach or alcohol-based products will strip the UV coating and damage the inks.
- No abrasive cloths — scouring pads and rough sponges scratch the surface.
- No soaking — canvas is not waterproof; standing moisture causes mould and warping of the wooden frame.
How to Hang a Canvas Print Correctly

- Weight check: a 24×36 inch canvas weighs roughly 3–4 kg — use a wall plug rated for at least 5 kg, never a flimsy nail.
- Two hooks for large sizes: use both D-rings so the canvas hangs level and doesn't pull the frame over time.
- Level it: a spirit level avoids the "crooked frame" look that ruins an otherwise perfect wall.
Sunlight & Heat Protection
Every EvoArtPrints canvas is finished with a UV-resistant laminate, so colours stay vibrant even in bright rooms. That said, no print is truly immortal in direct sun:
- Avoid direct sunlight: long-term, harsh sun exposure will fade any artwork, UV coating or not. Place canvases away from south-facing windows where possible.
- Keep away from radiators and fireplaces: heat dries out the canvas fibres and can warp the wooden stretcher frame.
- Watch for damp rooms: bathrooms and kitchens have high humidity — avoid hanging canvases there, or expect condensation damage over time.
Moving House or Storing a Canvas
- Wrap it: use a soft cloth or bubble wrap — never plastic directly against the surface (trapped moisture causes mildew).
- Store flat or padded upright: don't lean heavy canvases against each other; the frames can bow.
- Cool, dry place: avoid lofts and garages with temperature swings.
