Step 1: You Upload Your Photo
It all starts with your image. Upload any photo from your phone, camera, or computer — JPEG, PNG, or HEIC formats are all fine. Our system accepts files up to 30MB. Once uploaded, your photo enters our design queue, and our team gets to work within 24 hours.
Step 2: AI-Assisted Image Enhancement
Your photo goes through our AI enhancement pipeline. The system analyses exposure, white balance, sharpness, and colour saturation — then automatically adjusts each parameter for optimal canvas printing. AI upscaling is applied if your photo needs more resolution for your chosen canvas size. The result is a print-ready image with richer colours and better contrast than your original.
Step 3: Human Designer Review
This is the step that sets us apart from fully automated services. A human designer reviews every single order. They check:
- Is the composition right for the canvas aspect ratio?
- Are faces sharp and expressions visible?
- Does the crop look natural, with no important details cut off?
- Would the photo benefit from black-and-white conversion or a specific colour treatment?
If your photo has any issues — too dark, too blurry, or poor cropping — the designer will email you with suggestions before printing. No surprises, ever.
Step 4: CMYK Conversion & Colour Proofing
Screens display in RGB (red-green-blue light). Canvas prints use CMYK (cyan-magenta-yellow-black ink). The colour space conversion is crucial — without it, prints can look dull or have colour shifts. Our RIP (Raster Image Processor) software handles this conversion precisely, then generates a colour proof to ensure what you saw on screen matches what appears on canvas.
Step 5: Premium Canvas Printing
Your image is printed on 350gsm poly-cotton canvas using archival-grade HP Latex inks on a wide-format HP Latex printer. Why archival inks matter: they're water-based, odourless, and certified to resist fading for 75+ years under normal indoor conditions. The printer uses 12-colour ink technology for smooth gradients and accurate skin tones — no banding, no colour casts.
Step 6: Stretching & Gallery Wrapping
Once printed, the canvas is trimmed with a 40mm bleed margin for gallery wrapping. It's stretched by hand over a kiln-dried pine wood frame (38mm deep for standard, 18mm for slim). The corners are folded neatly — no bunching, no visible staples on the sides. For gallery-wrap orders, the image wraps around the edges so your canvas looks finished from every angle. For framed orders, a floating frame is fitted at this stage.
Step 7: Quality Check, Packing & Shipping
Every canvas goes through a final inspection under studio lighting. We check for print defects, frame tension, corner quality, and packaging readiness. Once passed, it's wrapped in acid-free tissue paper, placed in a custom-fitted corrugated box with corner protectors, and sealed. UK orders ship free via Royal Mail Tracked 48 (2-3 working days). US orders are printed at our US fulfilment partner and ship via USPS Priority (3-5 working days). You receive a tracking number as soon as the label is created.
